F2007, Now reality!
Thu, Jan 17 2007
Seven-time World champion Michael Schumacher was a visitor as Ferrari launched its car for the 2007 Formula One season at the team headquarters in Maranello.
The new model has changes principally concerning safety, through the introduction of more stringent front and rear crash tests and the addition of a composite material structure to provide lateral protection to the sides of the driver. These modifications have led to a significant increase in the weight of the car, in the region of just under ten kilogrammes.
The F2007 also has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, while a revised gearbox housing means the rear is narrow than before. However, things at the rear represent few changes, with the engine freeze limiting any alterations to the F2007's V8 unit, while the suspension is also little different to that on the 248.
There are also new F1 teams preparing to launch a new model of their brand. Currently there are seven of eleven that have confirmed when they will launch their new cars. Thus far the launch schedule is shaping up like so:
| January 12 | Toyota | Cologne, Germany |
| January 14 | Ferrari | Italy |
| January 15 | McLaren-Mercedes | Valencia, Spain |
| January 16 | BMW Sauber | Valencia, Spain |
| January 24 | Renault | Amsterdam, Netherlands |
| January 25 | Honda | Barcelona, Spain |
| February 2 | Williams | Grove, UK |
