The Bubble Project

Advertising is everywhere we look. It's spreading faster and faster to every corner of every street. Public spaces and the public in general, are helpless victims in this aggressive invasion. There is an inherent sense of powerlessness when faced with advertising messages, because we, as consumers, are treated as passive recipients. Advertising doesn't ask for our opinion. It doesn't engage us in an exchange. It only screams at us whether we like it or not. So can we, the public have our voice heard?
Actually we can. A fantastic marketing project called The Bubble Project
was created by Ji Lee that aims to counterattack the one-sided corporate onslaught of marketing and advertisement messages which propagate public space.
The idea behind the project is to place Bubble stickers on the physical ads, thereby transforming them from corporate monologue into a dialogue open to the public. The Bubble stickers are meant to encourage anyone to fill them in with any form of self expression, free from censorship. Here, people can find the collected bubbles organized by themes: social commentary, sex and drugs, politics and religion, media and fashion, art and philosophy, humor, and personal messages. There are also downloadable bubble templates so people can make their own bubbles, for free.
Every body is invited to express their freedom of speech without censorship. And every body wins with the Bubble Project: People have more fun interacting and looking at the transformed ads and the advertisers get more looks at their bubbled ads. Hundreds of the photographed results are displayed at the bubble project. Here people can also download the free bubble template so they can print it, cut it and bubble their own town.
Some consider bubbling a form of graffiti. It may be but some of these bubble messages offer intelligent or humorous commentary on the culture of advertising. And humor during the evening commute can only be a good thing! The online Bubble Project keeps the fun.
There are thousands of bubblers all around the world. The site also features the online bubbling through "The Bubbled Person of the Week", where a person who made the world news is featured with an empty bubble so anyone can fill in and make their own story about the person.
