How to levitate - Part III
Tue, Feb 5 2007So far I have discussed the secrets of the Balducci and King Levitation, but in this article a new type of levitation is going to be revealed - The Sooperman Levitation.
For those of you that believe that real levitation is possible you may want to skip this article and read the one with the real levitation.
This method of levitation is sometimes called Wild Levitation and it's by far more complicated then the previous ones. It requires the use of cover (a jacket for example), during the performance, which makes the levitation look less natural. Also, this illusion uses a gimmick, which means this variation is not completely impromptu.
The Sooperman levitation method allows you to appear levitating considerably higher than in the original Balducci levitation. This levitation also has the flexibility to be performed for a larger group of spectators
So, how it's done?
First your legs must be covered with a jacked or something similar that will cover the whole front area of your legs. Then your shoes needs to be attached one another using some gimmick (usually a bulldog clip, magnets, or Velcro). This may be done under some guise, such as straightening the coat used to obscure the legs.
The most important thing in this method is that one of your feet needs to be secretly slipped out of your shoe and positioned behind the shoes. You need to stand on the tip of the toes on your foot while also raising the other foot to create the illusion that both feet (really one foot but both shoes) are suspended magically above the ground.
From your standpoint surely this looks quite simple, but from the spectators point it will look quite extraordinary. Again I would say the cover (jacked) makes the illusions a little unnatural, but still without it, the trick would not succeed.
