Top 10 Manliest Movies
Fri, Mar 22 2007Meet the cruellest, fiercest, wonderful, violent and blood thirsty movies all packed in a list of 10 manliest movies of all time. Worth to be part of your DVD collection.
10. ROCKY IV (1985)
Rocky IV is the fourth and most successful movie, in terms of box office gross.
Rocky Balboa, heavyweight champion of the world, is the trainer for Apollo Creed in an exhibition match against Ivan Drago, a "superman" boxer from the Soviet Union. When Apollo is killed in the ring by the brutal Drago, Balboa blames himself and promises to avenge his friend's death in the ring.
9. UNDER SIEGE (1992)
Under Siege is a 1992 action film in the Die Hard mold.
The legendary U.S. battleship, the U.S.S. Missiouri is going to be decommissioned. But the worst has happened, terrorists have taken over the ship and are planning to sell the nuclear arsenal aboard. Now, only one man stands in the way A ex- Navy SEAL turned cook, Casey Ryback (Steven Seagal).
8. HARD BOILED (1992)
Hard Boiled is certainly a superior film. It's also somewhat different from the others. While Woo's other Hong Kong movies also feature spectacularly melodramatic crime stories centered around flawed men trying to live their lives honorably, Hard Boiled is less optimistic and more brooding than movies like The Killer and A Better Tomorrow.
7. WALL STREET (1987)
The story involves a young stockbroker, Bud Fox (Charlie Sheen) working for his firm during the day, he spends his spare time working an on angle with with to approach the high-powered, extremely successful (but ruthless and greedy) broker Gordon Gekko (Michael Douglas). Fox finally meets with Gekko, who takes the youth under his wing and explains his philosophy that "Greed is Good".
Taking the advice and working closely with Gekko, Fox soon finds himself swept into a world of "yuppies", shady business deals, the "good life", fast money, and fast women; something which is at odds with his family including his estranged father (Martin Sheen) and the blue-collared way Fox was brought up.
6. THE GODFATHER (1972)
I bet we have all watched The famous Godfather. For those who doesn't the story begins as "Don" Vito Corleone, the head of a New York Mafia "family", oversees his daughter's wedding. His beloved son Michael has just come home from the war, but does not intend to become part of his father's business. Through Michael's life the nature of the family business becomes clear. Don Vito lives his life in the way of the old country, but times are changing and some don't want to follow the old ways and look out for community and "family". An up and coming rival of the Corleone family wants to start selling drugs in New York, and needs the Don's influence to further his plan. The clash of the Don's fading old world values and the new ways will demand a terrible price, especially from Michael, all for the sake of the family.
5. COMMANDO (1985)
4. GOLDFINGER (1964)
Goldfinger was the third film in the James Bond series, and the third starring Sean Connery as Commander James Bond.
Beginning innocently enough with a murder, James Bond finds himself investigating Auric Goldfinger, a gold dealer who the Bank of England suspects is stockpiling huge amounts of gold bullion. However, he soon uncovers a far more sinister plot called Operation Grand Slam and has a fair bit of bowler-hat-dodging to do from Goldfinger's manservant, Oddjob.
3. JAWS (1975)
Jaws is a masterful, visceral and realistic science-fiction suspense/horror-disaster film that taps into the most primal of human fears. The peaceful community of Amity island is being terrorised. There is something in the sea that is attacking swimmers. They can no longer enjoy the sea and the sun as they used to, and the spreading fear is affecting the numbers of tourists that are normally attracted to this island. After many attempts the great white shark won't go away and sheriff Brody, with friends Hooper and Quint decide to go after the shark and kill it.
2. PREDATOR (1987)
Here is one for the alien fans. A team of commandos, led by Dutch Schaeffer, go on a mission to rescue captured airmen from terrorists. When they discover that the airmen have been slaughtered beyond recognition, the team decimates the enemy encampment. Before they can radio for a lift-off, invisible alien specie begins to kill the team members. Hunted like animals by an enemy they cannot see, the team must survive in the jungle before they are all killed.
1. FIGHT CLUB (1999)
Definitely earn the place number One on most of the top 10 movie lists. A lonely, isolated thirty-something young professional seeks an escape from his mundane existence with the help of a devious soap salesman. They find their release from the prison of reality through underground fight clubs, where men can be what the world now denies them. Their boxing matches and harmless pranks soon lead to an out-of-control spiral towards oblivion.
I belive the next one on the top10 list will be 300 - An film based on an ancient myth about Spartans fought to the death against Xerxes and his massive Persian army.
