The Noah's Ark Discovered
Thu, Dec 13 2006
High in the mountains of northwestern Iran, a Christian archeology expedition has discovered a rock formation that its members say resembles the fabled Noah's ark. They found a shrine and wood fragments at 15,000 feet (4,570 meters) elevation.
By cutting thin sections of the rock the team believes that within the rock formation, they can see evidence of hundreds of massive hand-hewn wooden beams laid out in the presumed size and shape of the Ark.
Some scholars talk that the Biblical archaeologists seem to have experienced pareidolia (a psychological phenomenon inv olving a vague image or sound being mistakenly perceived as recognizable) seeing what they want to see in ambiguous patterns or images. Other researchers remain certain that the Ark is in fact on Mt. Ararat.
It may be hard to prove that this object is Noah's ark. But no dough the rock formation was an important place of pilgrimage in the past. The Bible gives us a compass direction here, and it is not in the direction of Turkey. Instead it points directly towards Iran. Also it does look like the object that the ancients talked about far in the past.
It's still early to prove anything, but if the discovery proves to be right, it would support the Bible as an accurate historical source, with wider implications for currently dominant scientific theories in the fields of evolution, cosmology and geology.
